Simplify your SVGs to improve website performance
SVGs are great for website performance by default but, as I’ve mentioned before, there’s always room for improvement…
In this example we take a complex map illustration with hundreds of paths and we convert it to a very simple line drawing with around 17 paths. The result is an approximate reduction of around 97%. We’ve taken a 25kb file and reduced it to just a few bytes!
This is of course a very extreme example and such a heavy simplification may not be appropriate for your particular style. But even the smallest of reductions will help to boost your website’s performance, and this principle can be applied to almost any SVG.
Any questions?
